“As a watercolor artist, my greatest reward is when someone sees my art from across a room and smiles.

That‘s how I know I’ve contributed to the world. God creates the landscapes that give me a feeling, and I use that feeling to create a painting. In turn, my painting transfers a feeling to the person viewing it. There’s nothing more I want than to have that cycle continue.

I paint what I feel. I don’t paint what others see or even what I see. I paint what my soul feels. Those feelings are what motivate me to paint. If my eyes see something that causes me to feel tenderness, serenity, nostalgia, or positivity, I’ll want to paint it so others can feel something as well. With my art, I’m transferring my feelings into something tangible for others. In turn, they feel their own set of feelings too.”

 Watercolor Painting FAQs

Do you paint custom home and pet watercolor portraits?

Yes, I would love to paint your home or pet!

What are your sizes and prices?

Pricing varies, as it depends on the subject matter and size needed. I can assure you my pricing is reasonable for original watercolor portraits. I require half down for custom paintings. The remaining balance will be due prior to shipping or on delivery.

How long is your waiting list?

A three-month advance notice is typically suggested for commissioned pieces. When possible, I try to fulfill last-minute requests as well.

Do you paint from a photo?

Yes. A photo taken outside in natural light is best. For pets, it’s best the photo is taken at pet level rather than from above. Crisp, clear eyes in the photo is best. For homes, the sun should be lighting up the front of the house with doors closed and vehicles removed.

Do you teach?

Yes! I teach online watercolor classes for all abilities. Learn about upcoming watercolor classes here.

How do I place an order?

Email a photo of your home, farm, business, or pet to get things started.

Where are you located?

I’m at my studio, Homestead Art & Studio in DeWitt, Iowa. If I’m not there, I’m on my family farm in Long Grove, Iowa.

How long does it take to get a painting done?

Depending on the subject, a painting can take one to three weeks.
