Today I’m showing you some of my VERY FIRST watercolor attempts from when I was learning.
The purpose of me doing this is to show you it’s OK to just play with your brushes and colors and paper. Enjoy the process of learning, and practice compassion and patience as you do so.

It’s that time again when I don’t feel like having much of a plan. Today, I’d rather have fun and just go with the flow and see what the paper already knows it wants to be. It’s my job to let it out.
Follow along with this fun and crazy tutorial and let out what your paper wants to become!
There are no rules in this one. Just entertain all of the ideas that pop into your head whether they sound ridiculous or not. Just add water.

Who doesn't like a big stack of fluffy pillows?!
I saw this sweet little photo from a magazine and immediately cut it out knowing that one day I would want to paint it. This one is super fast, super fun, and super easy!

This tutorial is fun and easy, but the trick is to let go of perfection. Make it fun. Keep it simple. Find a reference photo or create your own scene, and just let the little kid in you come out to play.

Not feeling inspired by any particular reference photo, I decided to make up my own. Follow along as I paint prairie grass in the foreground and as I listen to my intuition in this vertical landscape.

My goal with this one is to prove that you can, in fact, try painting things that seem intimidating. I break this scene down step-by-step so it's manageable. What I really love about this one is that it has so many elements that I teach in my online classes.

Learn the skill of negative painting and bring out something extra special in your watercolor projects. Painting the negative spaces in your sketches takes a bit more planning, but the results are always worth the extra time.

In under fifteen minutes, you can paint a simple cityscape by the water. It’s easy, relaxing, fun and a good lesson on how to blend colors into each other.
“Learning watercolor painting from Sharon is delightful and very satisfying! She teaches technique step by step, and helps the beginner build confidence. Her class was complex enough to satisfy advanced students. I especially appreciate Sharon's natural, easy-going teaching style that brings great results!"

For those of you who feel like painting for the enjoyment of it rather than for the outcome, this one’s for you.
I threw away all thoughts of perfection and simply laid down color until an image took shape.
Is mine perfect? Not even close. There are so many things I’d like to “fix.” But this particular lesson isn’t about getting things right.
Try not to hit the pause button on this one. Follow along. Be fast. Be careless. Be playful. Use new color combinations. This type of work grows creativity.
